Offered together with: Signed letter (ALS) from one of Australia's greatest Olympic swimmers. Dated March 18th, 1975 written on personal emblem letterhead. Creased where folded; in excellent condition. SIGNED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LETTER BY ROSE. Text of letter as follows: Dear Mr Szimidzik, Enclosed are the items you requested. I have not been able to locate a photograph of myself so instead, I have included an autographed stamp which was issued by the Dominican Republic. Although I competed for Australia my roots are in England and I was born near Birmingham in 1939. My first swim was in Sydney Harbour at the age of eighteen months and it became an important part of my life for many years. I won four gold medals in the Melbourne and Rome Olympic Games and continuously held one or more world records between 1956 and 1968. Includes a copy of the original deck plans, the Titanic's final telegram, an eyewitness account of one of the survivors, certificates issued by the Board of Trade prior to the ship's maiden voyage, findings of the Parliament and Senate investigation and thirteen other documents. In excellent condition. INCLUDES A LOOSELY INSERTED 8" x 10" COLOUR PHOTO OF PORTION OF THE SUBMERGED SHIP SIGNED AND DATED (9/01/85, date of the discovery) BY ROBERT BALLARD, THE DISCOVERER OF THE WRECK OF THE TITANIC. All in fine condition (the lid of the box with a small tear to the side, now neatly repaired). Photo has very minor signs of use. A fascinating piece of memorabilia about this legendary ship.
